PURPOSE: To prepare a stable hair coloring composition capable of providing a rapidly dyeing permanent hair coloring system, avoiding conventional problems and having excellent rheological properties. CONSTITUTION: This oxidative hair coloring composition comprises a two-part system, containing an aqueous oxidative hair coloring composition (a lotion and a developer) and mutually mixed just before use in order to form a gel. The lotion has a pH of about 7 to about 11 and a water content of at least about 70 wt.% and contains an aqueous alkali composition containing a dyeing effective amount of an oxidative dye precursor, an amphoteric surfactant and at least one monomeric quaternary ammonium cationic surfactant. The developer has a pH of about 2 to about 6 and contains a peroxide oxidizing agent and at least one substantially water-insoluble anionic acrylic polymer soluble by mixing of the lotion and developer.
