PURPOSE:To optimize the flow rate of a refrigerant when the refrigerant in a refrigerating cycle is circulated to indoor units and to always control a suitable operation of the cycle in an air conditioner having a plurality of indoor units. CONSTITUTION:A controller for an air conditioner having an outdoor unit and first and second indoor units detects a suction tube temperature of a compressor of the outdoor unit by suction tube temperature detecting means 2. A method for controlling the conditioner comprises the steps of calculating a timing change rate of the detected suction tube temperature by a timing change rate calculator 10, calculating a temperature difference of the tube temperature from a predetermined value preset by a setter 3 by a temperature difference calculator 11, inputting the calculated change rate and difference to a fuzzy calculator 12, fuzzy-calculating a control amount (DELTAEv) for controlling first and second electronic expansion valves disposed at predetermined positions, and controlling opening or closing degrees of the first and second valves based on the fuzzy-calculated result.
