Succinimides of formula (I) (where R1 and R = hal or alkyl, R2 = 1-10C alkyl, alkenyl, -(CH2)lC6H4Q where Q is H, hal, alkyl, O-alkyl, or NO2 and l is 1-4 or -C6H4Z where Z is H, hal, alkyl, O-alkyl, NO2, alpha-furfuryl, or CH2CO2 alkyl; X = hal, alkyl, O-alkyl or NO2; n = 0-3; and m = 0-2) are microbicides (I) are prepd. by (a) dehydrative cyclisation of a monoamide. and (b) condensing a corres. maleimide with R2SH, opt. followed by oxidation.
