<p>Graft copolymerisation by (1) treating an organic polymer (capable of hydrogen bonding with water or a monomer) with an electric discharge under inert atmos. at near atmos. pressure between electrodes having a potential difference of several kilovolts at tens-thousands Hertz frequency, and(2) contacting the treated polymer with an aq. soln. of monomer(s) at between ambient temp. and the b.pt. of the monomer(s)/water mixture. The electric discharge treatment does not degrade the polymer, and formation of parasitic homopolymer is very slight.</p> |
