PURPOSE:To obtain a sheet superior in sharpness of a recorded image, ink absorptivity, and ink drying properties and reduced in sticking of a recording layer and curling even under high humidity by providing a recording layer made of an aqueous composition containing a smectite clay on a substrate. CONSTITUTION:A recording layer superior in sharpness of a recorded image, ink absorptivity, and ink drying properties as an ink jet recording sheet and having a superior transparency is formed as a recording layer containing a smectite clay. The smectite clay is made of a crystal of a three-layer structure. Cells are expanded and the layers are irregularly laminated by incorporating various kinds of ions having a water molecule between the layers. As the smectite clay, for example, montmorillonite, beidellite, nontronite, and saponite are used. For preparing a stable flowable dispersion (sol), a defloculating agent is preferably added. As the defloculating agent, a multivalent phosphate or the like is used. |
