PURPOSE:To prevent burning of a compressor based on a malfunction of a discharge tube temperature sensor by controlling an opening of a motor-driven expansion valve in response to an inverter frequency until a discharge tube temperature reaches a predetermined time after an operation is started. CONSTITUTION:When an operation is started, control is switched by a control switching means 14, and it is so controlled in response to an inverter frequency as to become a valve opening by a motor driven expansion valve opening deciding means 15. Then, a discharge tube temperature is inputted to a comparing means 16, the control is switched by the means 14 when it is a predetermined value input from a temperature setting means 17, and switched to a control corresponding to the discharge tube temperature. Thus, even if a discharge tube temperature sensor 8 does not detect a discharge tube temperature due to removal of the sensor 8 from a discharge tube, etc., the valve is not excessively throttled. Accordingly, damage of a compressor 1 based on a malfunction of the sensor can be prevented.
