METAL OXIDE ADDED ACTIVATED CARBON CATALYST

摘要

PURPOSE:To obtain a deodorizing catalyst having high decomposition capacity reducing the generation amt. of a by-product and having high catalytic activity by adding a definite amt. of a metal oxide containing a metal such as chromium or nickel to molded activated carbon produced by a specific process. CONSTITUTION:A binder such as a phenol resin or tar is added to a carbonaceous raw material such as coconut husk charcoal or coal to mold the raw material and the molded one is carbonized to be activated in an atmosphere with steam content of 15vol.% or less to obtain activated carbon which is, in turn, cooled to 300 deg.C or lower in the same atmosphere. 0.1-20wt.% of metal oxide containing one or more kind of a metal such as iron or chromium is supported on activated carbon. The metal oxide added activated carbon thus obtained has high activity as an oxidizing catalyst even at the normal temp. or low temp. and oxidizes and deodorizes malodorous gas such as methyl mercaptan or trimethylamine.
