The present invention relates to a high-voltage circuit breaker capable of cutting off alternating fault currents of period T and with delayed zero crossing, passing through zero after a maximum time delay tzmax-t0 after the instant t0 of appearance of the fault, comprising a plurality of first cutoff chambers (1) in series each provided, at their terminals, with a distribution capacitor (2) of the same capacitance and equipped with means (3) for opening at an instant t1 later than the instant of appearance of the fault t0.
