The apparatus is for displaying the calling state of the telephone as well as muting the sound when the telephone is ringing. When the ring signal or off-hook signal is detected by a ring detector(22), a microcomputer(28) turns on a transistor(58) in a sound controller(26) to mute the sound. It also provides the data to a mixer(32) for displaying the calling state on the screen. Then the viewer identifies the telephone call easily with the displayed data and muted sound.
