Device for connecting pipe ends of an existing gas line by means of a weldable socket which can be positioned on the gas-pipe ends which are to be connected to one another and of which the two ends can each be welded in a gas-tight manner to the outer surface of the inserted gas-pipe ends by means of an encircling weld seam. Before the welding operation, at both ends, the annular gap between the inner surface of the connecting socket and th eouter wurface of the inserted gas-pipe ends can be sealed in each case by means of a sealing ring which, before the connecting socket is positioned on the gas-pipe ends which are to be connected, can be inserted into an encircling receiving means, forming a protuberance, on the inner surface of the connecting socket and consists of a soft and resilient material and can be pressed by a [lacuna] between the sealing ring and the ocnnecting socket against the outer surface of the inserted gas-pipe end by means of a medium which is subjected to pressure in the receiving means, the receiving means, which partially receives the sealing rings and is formed by the protruberance of the connecting socket and receives the pressure medium, being formed from a hollow, annular channel which is located between the connecting socket and an inner space arranged centrally with respect to the same.
