Process for producing refractory products based on magnesium oxide

The invention relates to a process for producing refractory products based on magnesium oxide. In the process, coarse aluminium hydroxide-containing grains having a particle size of at least 0.5 mm are used and added to the mixtures of the magnesium oxide grains. The coarse aluminium hydroxide-containing grains are to be obtained by a granulation process from fine aluminium hydroxides with or without aluminium oxide. These hydroxide grains can be used in the untreated state or after pretreatment at a temperature of up to 1700 DEG C. The shaped bodies manufactured by the proposed process have a higher mechanical strength and better thermal shock resistance (TSR) than those produced by just mixing a pulverulent Al(OH)3 into the magnesium oxide grains.
