Process for producing a soil conditioner having a long storage life from organic materials. The mixture is subjected in a known way to a press-shaping and the pressed articles obtained thereby are exposed to a rotting process by storage in rotting stacks in the open air. According to the invention, the rotting process takes place in the rotting stacks in at least one room cell (1) closed off in ventilation terms and, if appropriate, heat-insulated, the temperature in the room cell or the rotting stacks being regulated to a specific value by an appropriate control of the air supply (11) and air discharge (12) in a circulating-air mode and with fresh air being admixed. <IMAGE>
