Devices and methods are provided for deactivating magnetic security strips. Helmholtz coils (3) are provided in a quantity and orientation such that the security strips can be deactivated without regard to their orientation simply by exposing the strips to three orthogonal, successively weaker, yet sufficiently powerful, magnetic fields.
