The invention relates to a profiling cutter for producing grooves, in particular in non-metallic workpieces such as wood or plastic, with a cutter shank, at the end of which there are arranged cutting bodies at regular angular distances from one another, each having at least one circumferential cutting edge and one frontal edge. The known profiling cutters, in particular for producing dovetail grooves, have two diametrically opposite cutting bodies. These profiling cutters have the disadvantage that in each case only one cutting edge is in engagement with the material of the object to be worked. For this reason, fairly irregular cutting forces result and the double-edged profiling cutter runs unsteadily. Furthermore, its rate of feed is relatively low. Finally, the cutting edges of the double-edged profiling cutter wear fairly quickly. According to the invention, these disadvantages are eliminated by the fact that at least three cutting bodies (2) are arranged at the end of the cutter shank (1), and the frontal cutting edges (7) have an angle alpha 1 with respect to the radial direction of the profiling cutter, so that all frontal cutting edges (7) lie substantially on a concave conical surface. <IMAGE>
