In a level control device for setting a desired zero position of the vehicle body height, with an electronic control module, with actuators for the automatic adjustment of a vehicle body height and with a height sensor for detection of the actual vehicle body height set, a desired zero position is given by a set-point vehicle body height, a set-point, pre-programmed in the control module, for the automatic adjustment of the vehicle body height is assigned to the said zero position, the actual vehicle body height, set automatically on the basis of the set-point, is detected by the height sensor and compared with the desired zero position, and the pre-programmed set-point can be corrected in the control module according to the difference between the actual vehicle body height, set automatically on the basis of the set-point, and the desired zero position.
