A cutting device for lengths of clay has a plurality of conveyor belts (2a) which have clearances between them, form a cutting table 2 and on which a length of clay 1, coming from an extruder, rests. A plurality of cutting wires 3, which extend transversely with respect to the direction of the lengths of clay, are guided on both sides in a cutting frame 4 by wire holders 5, 10 in such a manner that during the vertical cutting movement they simultaneously execute a movement along their longitudinal axis, resulting in a substantial reduction in the cutting pressure. <IMAGE>
