1335857 Boots &c BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO Ltd 13 Jan 1971 [14 Jan 1970 8 June 1970] 1566/71 Heading A3B A machine for lasting the forepart of shoe which has previously been heel lasted without securing the insole to the last bottom includes a last engaging member 13 which can be moved heelwards while the upper is gripped to force the last into the previously lasted heel end thereby bringing the last bottom into registry with the insole. As described the last engaging member 13 is incorporated in a lasting machine of the type described in Specification 1048813. The last engaging member 13 is carried by a block 15 which is mounted by parallelogram linkage 18, 19 on a platform 20. The block 15 is connected to piston rod 16 of cylinder 17 which is used to lower the last engaging member 13 out of the path of the wipers (not shown) during their inwiping movement. The platform 20 is pivoted to the machine frame 27 at 39 and carries a slide 35. A bell crank lever 21 is pivoted to the machine frame 27 at 24 and has one arm pivoted to the slide 25 and the other arm pivoted to a bracket 22 carried by piston rod 23 of cylinder 26. Operation of cylinder 26 rotates the bell crank and thus pivots the platform 20 about pivot 39 to move the last engaging member 13 heelwardly to force the last into the lasted heel end of the upper. The initial position of the last engaging member 13 is determined by stop screw 41 and its final position is determined by stop screw 42. During the downward movement of the wipers (not shown) the last engaging member 13 acts as an upper distributing device.
