The invention relates to a passenger compartment for motor vehicles with integrated safety device, in particular for passenger cars. The invention proposes that springs, preferably helical springs, are arranged in the front, central and rear pillars which bear the roof. The helical springs are preferably to be arranged in the virtually vertical central pillars such that the helical springs produce a force limitation and complete buckling of the pillars is thereby prevented and, furthermore, they effect sufficient lifting of the overturned motor vehicle. Particularly in the case of the front and rear pillars being arranged such that they angle off obliquely towards the passenger compartment, use may also be made, according to the invention, of helical springs with prestressing, on which a spacer, passing through the pillars, is arranged in direct connection with the helical springs. When the roof makes impact with the ground, the locking of the helical spring is released and, due to the prestressing, the spacer arranged in the pillars springs out and thus prevents the top section of the passenger compartment from being completely compressed. It is also within the scope of the invention to arrange the helical springs above the vehicle frame, in the lower part of the passenger compartment. For this purpose, provision is made, above the helical springs, for spacers which, in direct connection with said springs, pass into the pillars. <IMAGE>
