An aerodynamic air data sensing probe (10, 45) adapted for mounting to an air vehicle (14, 14A, 14B) and capable of generating signals related to a fluid flowing relative to the air vehicle (14, 14A, 14B). A fluid inlet (11, 11A, 53) positioned on a first end of a strut (16, 16A, 49) faces generally transverse to the fluid flow selectively admits fluid to an internal strut cavity (21, 21A, 51) due to a pressure differential across the cavity (21, 21A, 51). In operation, the pressure differential forms between the first end surface (15, 15B, 47) of the aerodynamically-shaped, forward-inclined strut (16, 16A, 49) and probe exhaust ports (19, 19A, 59). A temperature sensing element (25, 25A, 61) disposed in the internal strut cavity (21, 21A, 51) registers the temperature of the fluid and the sensed fluid is expelled from the internal strut cavity (21, 21A, 51) through the exhaust ports (19, 19A, 59). In another embodiment, a barrel-shaped probe head (30, 47) adapted to sense fluid pressure connects to a portion of the leading edge of the strut (16, 16A, 49) to form an aerodynamic multifunction air data sensing probe.
|
