Known apparatuses position blank pieces, already prepositioned according to two coordinates, according to a third coordinate by means of sensors and stop strips to be adjusted according to size. The new apparatus executes independently of size a symmetrical orientation of small blank pieces according to the third coordinate, without adjusting work being necessary. The essence of the invention according to Figure 1 is that two linear photosensors (5) fixed to the frame are at a distance (8) from one another in parallel with the stop edge (6), and a positioning plate (1) is transparent in the sensor region and is moved by an actuating drive (14) together with the blank piece (12) to be positioned. At the same time, the sensor distances (8) and (10) correspond to the smallest and largest blank edge lengths (13) to be positioned. By means of the controlled actuating drive (14), all the blank edges (13) to be positioned in the size range are oriented centrally without mechanical readjustment. The size range can be varied by displacing the sensors (5) parallel to the stop edge (6) by means of suitable actuating drives. The sector of use is the automatic processing of blank pieces in the textile industry. <IMAGE>
