The invention relates to a gas/liquid separator and a contact apparatus for mixing a gas stream with a liquid and for subsequent phase separation of the resulting gas/liquid stream. According to the invention, a baffle shield (5) is fixed virtually horizontally in the separator above the centrally and vertically arranged feedline (1), the baffle shield (5) having at the outer end a deflection collar (6) which runs roughly parallel to the feedline (1) and on the inside of which facing the feedline (1) are mounted internals (7, 8) generating liquid strands, and the deflection collar (6) and the shell housing (4) delimiting an outflow duct (9) for the gas phase. In the separator, the gas/liquid flow is run against the baffle shield (5) having the deflection collar (6), the flow being deflected downwards through about 180 DEG C. In the course of this there results on the baffle shield (5) or on the deflection collar (6) a liquid film which is broken up by the internals (8) into liquid strands. In the intermediate spaces between the liquid strands, the gas can escape upwards unhindered via the outflow duct (9), which achieves a virtually 100% phase separation. The liquid strands running off from the internals (8) build up in the lower part of the apparatus and can be taken off via a line (3).
