A ducted fan gas turbine engine (10 Fig. 1) is provided with a fan casing (13) provided with a portion 17 adapted to provide fan blade (15) containment in the event of fan blade (15) failure. The containment portion 17 comprises three layers: a wall 18 adjacent the fan blades 15, a plurality of metallic tubes 20 attached to the radially outer surface of the wall 18 and a layer of strong woven fibrous containment material (eg aramid fibres or carbon fibres) surrounding the metallic tubes 20. <IMAGE> |
