PURPOSE:To produce high-calorific fuel gas, continuously, in high yield, without using a coal-introducing pipe, by introducing a rod of briquettes obtained by binding powdered coal with a binder, into molten iron in a gasification furnace. CONSTITUTION:Powdered coal is mixed with a binder comprising lime, iron oxide, coal tar pitch, etc., and extrusion molded at about 300 kg/cm<2> to obtain a coal rod 1. The coal rod 1 is introduced into a molten iron F through the hole at the top 2c of the gasification furnace 2a at a nearly constant rate, and steam is introduced into the furnace through the blasting pipe 4. The coal rod 1 is dissolved in the molten iron F, and converted to water gas with the steam. The produced gas is taken out through an outlet 2d, and the slag S floating upon the molten iron is discharged through a separation chamber 2e. The molten iron F is recycled between the gasfication furnace 2a and the heating furnace 2b in which the carbonaceous materials exsisting in the gas is burnt with the air introduced through the pipes 6 to compensate the heat energy lost during the gasification process in the furnace 2a. |
