Methods for isolation of most abundant oligonucleotides from complex mixtures

Double-stranded nucleic acids present in a mixture thereof are converted to the individual strands thereof which are renatured under conditions which favors reannealing of the nucleic acids present at higher than average concentrations in the original mixture. The procedure can be used for identifying nucleic acids which bind to a target molecule or other compounds which bind to a target molecule by using nucleic acids as a coding portion of a chimeric molecule which includes such compounds.
