A method of construction of a basement foundation having a floor and circumscribing walls which comprise: (a) clearing and levelling an area of ground on which the foundation is to be supported; (b) aligning and levelling wall supporting anchor means on the cleared and levelled area; (c) bolting together in vertical orientation a plurality of insulated prefabricated precast concrete panels, when supported on the anchor means, to form the basement wall; and (d) pouring a concrete floor on the area of ground circumscribed by the walls to act as a continuous footing for the walls. Insulated prefabricated foundation panels are used to carry out this method, the panels being formed of a ribbed layer of concrete and an adjacent layer of insulation, and secured together by bolting.
