<p>PURPOSE: To decrease the number of degrees of freedom for controlling a cursor by moving the cursor in the 1st or 2nd coordinate direction of a screen through a control means corresponding to whether its control value changes in the 1st direction or the 2nd direction. CONSTITUTION: A cursor 15 composed of two fine lines is displayed on a display screen 14. Further, two directions 16 and 17 mutually forming an angleαcloser to 90 deg. are shown on the screen 14, and the position of the cursor 15 on the screen 14 is controlled based on the adjustment of a control means 10. Assuming that the control value of the control means 10 can be changed and the control value is expressed by a number N, when detecting the increase of the number N through a cursor control means 12, the cursor 15 is moved in the 1st direction 16 on the screen 14. When detecting the decrease of the number N, the cursor 15 is moved in the 2nd direction 17.
