PURPOSE:To efficiently synthesize methane from carbon dioxide and hydrogen by using a catalyst free from the segregation and agglomeration of the catalyst component and prepared by a specific method. CONSTITUTION:Catalytic hydrogenation of carbon dioxide is carried out by using a supported metal catalyst prepared by the spray decomposition of a solution containing one or more active metal compounds (e.g. Ni compound), one or more alkali metal compounds and one or more carrier metal compounds (e.g. Zr, Al, Mg, Zn, Ni or Nb compound). The concentration ratios of the active metal compound and the alkali metal are 0.01-80mol% (preferably 0.1-70mol%) of the active metal compound and 0.01-95mol% (preferably 0.05-85mol%) of the alkali metal compound in terms of molar percentage of the metal ion based on the total metal ion in the raw material solution. The diameter of the liquid droplet formed by the spray decomposition is preferably 0.01mum to 3mm. |
