PURPOSE:To provide the flame-retardant plastic optical fiber which has an excellent flame-retardant property, does not deteriorate fiber performance with lapse of time, does not drip the cable at the time of contact with a flame and does not increase an extrusion temp. and pressure at the time of working the cable. CONSTITUTION:This flame-retardant plastic optical fiber cable is formed by coating a plastic optical fiber 1 with a flame-retardant coating material 2. This flame-retardant coating material 2 includes compsns. (a) to (d); (a) 5 to 80 pts.wt. ethylene-(meth)acrylate copolymer, (b) 20 to 95 pts.wt. low crystalline ethylene-higher olefin copolymer, (c) 100 to 300 pts.wt. metal hydroxide, (d) 2 to 30 pts.wt. red phosphorus. The ratio of the outside diameter of the optical fiber 1 and the outside diameter of the coating material layer 2 is in a range of 1:1 to 1:6, more preferably 1:2 to 1:3. |
