PURPOSE: To match the cooling of both divided flows and to achieve homogenization of cooling by dividing the cooling air of a cooling air supply section into a main flow and a by-pass flow, then recombining both divided flows at the inlet to a cooling air duct in a method for cooling a thermally loaded component with a plate-type outer wall. CONSTITUTION: In a method for cooling a thermally loaded component 1 with an outer wall 2, cooling air is supplied to the first cooling portion A of the component 1 through a cooling air supply section 5 and is deflected laterally before the outer wall 2. The cooling air is further guided parallel to the outer wall 2 through a laterally connecting cooling air duct 3 in a second cooling portion B. In order to reduce the impingement cooling operation in the first cooling portion A, the cooling airflow from the cooling air supply section 5 is divided into a main flow 11 and a by-pass flow 8. The main flow 11 is guided to the cooling air duct 3 along the outer wall 2. The by-pass flow 8 is guided to the cooling air duct 3 without contacting the outer wall 2, then both divided flows are recombined at the inlet to the cooling air duct 3.
