摘要 PURPOSE:To enhance the safety by preventing the abnormal approach between the own vehicle and a vehicle ahead when the vehicle ahead is lost during the inter-vehicle distance control. CONSTITUTION:A traveling controller is equipped with a car speed control part for controlling the car speed for the constant speed traveling at a specific objective car speed, and an inter-vehicle distance control part which detects the distance between the own vehicle and a vehicle ahead by the inter-vehicle distance detecting device and carries out control so that the inter-vehicle distance becomes equal to a specific objective inter-vehicle distance. Further, the traveling controller is equipped with a car speed estimating means 31 for a vehicle ahead which estimates the car speed VSPF of the vehicle ahead when it is lost during the control by the inter-vehicle distance control part and an objective car speed setting means 32 which sets the target car speed VSPO in the control by the car speed control part by using the car speed VSPF of the vehicle ahead which is estimated by the estimating means 31. When the objective car speed VSPO is set, the lower value between the car speed VSPF of the vehicle ahead and the car speed VSP of the own vehicle is selected, or the intermediate value of the car speed of the vehicle ahead and the car speed of the own vehicle is set as target car speed, and then the car speed of the vehicle ahead is set as the objective car speed.
