PURPOSE: To obtain a hair dye capable of imparting a color having good resistances to light, washing, bad weather, perspiration and various treatments to keratinous fibers, especially human keratinous fibers such as hair. CONSTITUTION: This hair dye comprises (A) an oxidative dye precursor selected from a 3 methyl-, a 2-methyl- and a 2-hydroxymethyl-para-aminophenol, (B) a coupler selected from 2-methyl-5-aminophenol represented by formula I (R is methyl, ethyl,β-hydroxyethyl orγ-hydroxypropyl) and (C) an oxidative dye precursor selected from (C1 ) a paraphenylenediamine represented by formula II (R1 and R3 are each H, a halogen, an alkyl, an alkoxy, etc.; R4 and R5 are each H, an alkyl, a hydroxyalkyl, etc.) and (C2 ) a bis-phenylalkylenediamine represented by formula III [Z1 and Z2 are each OH or NHR9 (R9 is H or an alkyl); R7 and R8 are each H, a halogen or an alkyl; R6 is H, an alkyl, an alkylamino, etc.; Y is (CH2 )n or (CH2 )m -O-(CH2 )m [(n) is 0-8; (m) is 0-4, etc.].
