PURPOSE: To facilitate main discharging by sufficiently performing trigger discharging and to prevent erroneous discharging or following maintenance discharging from being generated even when there is no data at an anode at the time of main discharging. CONSTITUTION: When a trigger discharging pulse is impressed to a cathode on the stage of 2nd trigger discharging after the stage of 1st trigger discharging is executed, the trigger discharging occurs also with positive electric charges stored on a dielectric around the cathode, and trigger discharging occurs with data pulses impressed to the anode. Therefore, since trigger discharging is made sufficient by trigger discharging between the cathode and the anode, main discharging on the next main discharging stage is facilitated and since the positive electric charges stored on the dielectric around the cathode are completely extinguished, even when there is no data at the anode during a main discharging period, erroneous discharging does not occur between the positive electric charges stored on the dielectric around the cathode and the cathode.
