PURPOSE: To make CD unusable without destroying a polycarbonate substrate by abrading the information retaining face of the CD with a knurling wheel. CONSTITUTION: Compact disks(CD) 12 are loaded at random on the feeding conveyor 16 of a feeder unit 10, dropped from the end of the conveyor 16 into a cylindrical tube 16, and piled from the bottom. Then, with a reciprocating plunger 20 horizontally thrusting through a slot positioned at the lower end of the tube 16, the CDs are pushed to a guide 21 and delivered one at a time to an abrasion unit 14. Then, a depth-controlled groove is formed, by means of knurling wheels 42, 44, on the disk surface of the CD 12 caught and held between moving belts 26, 28, so that the stored information is destroyed. Therefore, the CDs are made unusable without destroying the disk substrate. Incidentally, the wheels 42, 44 are desirably a circular disk with plural cross grooves. |
