Process for the application of laser pulses to a crystalline solid material

To allow laser pulses to be applied to a surface (S) of any shape of a crystalline solid material (10) such as a metal, this surface is coated with a confining medium (14) consisting of a liquid polymer or elastomer, transparent to the laser wavelength. It is thus possible to employ medium-power lasers, at high frequency, in order to carry out the treatment of the material industrially. It is also possible to treat materials of high elasticity limit without having to change the confinement after each firing. <IMAGE>
