PURPOSE:To enhance high rate charge/discharge performance in the initial stage, low temperature charge/discharge performance, and to lengthen cycle life by conducting surface treatment to a hydrogen storage allay whose uneven stain is specified by using an acidic aqueous solution with specified pH. CONSTITUTION:Surface treatment is conducted to a hydrogen storage alloy with an uneven strain of 5X10<-3> or less by using an acidic aqueous solution with pH of 0.5-3.5, and an electrode for metal hydride storage battery using the hydrogen storage allay as a negative electrode material is obtained. The surface treatment is conducted in the crushing process of a hydrogen storage alloy ingot, or before the electrode is prepared, or to the electrode. By conducting the surface treatment, the surface of the hydrogen storage alloy is dissolved with hydrogen evolved, and hydrogen evolved is stored again in the hydrogen storage alloy. During this process, cracks are generated and new active sites are produced to enhance the activity of the alloy. |
