PURPOSE:To achieve a stable detection of the concentration of oxygen in an exhaust gas which varies significantly in temperature and flow velocity containing solid particles. CONSTITUTION:A base body 1 has a detection element 1a with an electrode for detecting the concentration of oxygen and am electrically heating element at one end thereof and a conductive terminal 1b at the other end thereof. It is supported on a plug metal device 3 mounted on an exhaust pipe wall 14 to couple. A coupling part 4 of the base body 1 on the plug metal device 3 is set at a position outside the exhaust pipe wall 14. The perimeter on the side of the detection element 1a of the base body 1 projecting out toward the exhaust pipe 14 side from the coupling part 4 is covered with a cap type bottomed pipe 6. A gas passage hole 6b is arranged on the side wall out of the bottomed pipe 6 to let a part of a gas of the exhaust pipe 14 pass at a position away from the detection element 1a and another passage hole 6c is provided on a bottom wall. |
