PURPOSE: To provide a compound transmission with an input auxiliary part for allowing the use of a small, low-cost synchronizer. CONSTITUTION: An input splitter including two jaw clutches is provided for an auxiliary transmission part, connected in series to a mechanical main transmission part of a change gear. The splitter is constructed to separate an input shaft from the output gear of the auxiliary part, when the jaw clutches are separated from each other. A shift fork 62 for operating the jaw clutches is operatively connected to a fluid pressure actuator 61, a valve means 89 is connected to the fluid pressure actuator 61 for sensing the neutral condition of a shift mechanism for the main transmission part to be operated, and the fluid pressure actuator 61 is held at the neutral position by the valve means 89, so that the jaw clutches are held in a separated condition for removing most of inertia, when the main transmission part is passed through the neutral before gear shift is carried out. |
