PURPOSE:To prevent the destruction or the deterioration of a catalyst of a high temperature carbon monoxide transformer. CONSTITUTION:In a reformer 7, main fuel and steam are reacted with a reforming catalyst 8 staying inside a reforming tube 21, to produce reformed gas. The reformer 7 is provided with a high temperature carbon monoxide transformer 9 for removing carbon monoxide. A fuel supplier supplies the produced reformed gas to a fuel electrode of the fuel cell. An air supplier supplies oxygen to an air electrode of the fuel cell. A nitrogen purger supplies purged nitrogen to the reformer 7 via a purge valve 18 on a fuel side when a plant is inoperative. A temperature detector 35 detects an inlet temperature of the high temperature carbon monoxide transformer 9 so as to output an inlet temperature signal. A control calculator 36 compares a preset temperature set signal with a signal indicating the inlet temperature in order to set a catalyst temperature of the high temperature carbon monoxide transformer 9, which is increased by the purged nitrogen of a high temperature when the plant is inoperative, lower than a maximum using temperature, thus opening or closing the purge valve 18 on a fuel side according to a deviation between the compared signals. |
