PURPOSE:To provide a compact electrochemical type gas sensor which is higher in gas permeability into an electrolytic solution and moreover higher in the efficiency of the eletrochemical reaction of a gas on an electrode by providing a porous hole on a gas sensitive electrode having the surface thereof covered with an ion permeable hydrophobic thin film. CONSTITUTION:This electrochemical type gas sensor is provided with a gas sensitive electrode 1 adapted to oxidize or reduce a gas electrochemically and a counter electrode 3, and has an electrolytic solution 2 sealed in with the gas sensitive electrode 1 and the counter electrode 3. The gas sensitive electrode 1 is provided with numerous holes with the diameter of several microns to several mms while the surface thereof is covered with a ion permeable hydrophobic thin film. The hydrophobic thin film is formed by fixing a chemical adsorption compound such as octadecyl trichlorosilane on the surface of the electrode through a covalent bond. |
