PURPOSE: To obtain an efficient and effective communication network by using a remote concentrator connected between different types of networks, such as the Ethernet network of an ATM network, etc. CONSTITUTION: A computer network is provided with first and second remote concentrators 402a and 402a connected to an executable ARM network 403. When data are sent to a terminal 401c from a terminal 401a, the terminal 401a sends the data to the concentrator 402a through Ethernet interfaces 404a and 405a. The concentrator 402a divides the information received through the interface 405a to ATM cells. The concentrator 402a transmits the cells in accordance with ATM communication requirements. The cells are transmitted to the concentrator 402b from an ATM interface 406 through the ATM network 403. The concentrator 402b sends the ATM cells to the terminal 401c by incorporating the cells in a packet.
