PURPOSE:To attain evaluation matched with human visibility and to allow the evaluation to coincide with human subjective evaluation by reproducing the deviation of an interpolation value found from a picture element value to be processed and its peripheral picture element values and evaluating a picture to be evaluated for an original picture. CONSTITUTION:Horizontal direction evaluation and vertical direction evaluation are individually executed and then synthetic evaluation is executed. At the time of obtaining horizontal direction evaluation, vertical direction evaluation is executed. In the case of declaring the evaluation of a certain direction, a certain picture element position is used as an object to be processed, the original image interpolating value of the picture element position to be processed is calculated from peripheral picture elements in the declared direction, a difference value between the picture element value to be processed and the interpolating value is calculated, the square of the difference value is found and also the interporating value of the picture element position to be processed is calculated from the picture element to be processed and peripheral picture elements in a direction declared at that time, further the difference value between the picture element to be processed and its interporating value of picture elements to be evaluated is found and the square of the difference value is recorded to end a series of processing for the picture element position to be processed. |
