PURPOSE:To reduce the capacity of a picture memory in an external peripheral instrument by using binary data for the transfer of picture data to/from the peripheral instrument. CONSTITUTION:The area of picture data obtained by A/D converting a picture signal read out by a CCD line sensor 201 into multi-valued digital signal is judged by a picture area judging circuit 220 and the judged data are converted into binary picture data by a binarizing circuit 214 based upon control signals MASK, NEGA, PHOTO outputted from a data X decoding circuit 208. Black character processing for the binary picture data is executed by a black character processing circuit 215 based upon a control signal KB and then the processed data are stored in a picture memory 222. A picture data PS image from a picture memory 223 and a scanner image are synthesized by a selector 224 based on the information in the memory 222 and the synthesized picture is printed out. Thereby even when the peripheral instrument is not provided with a large capacity picture memory, image synthesis can be attained. |
