The invention relates to a mechanical press which uses a cam plate (20), a nonbalanced inertia force generated during the reciprocating movement of a carriage (8) being eliminated without there being any overall deformation of the press, increasing dynamic accuracy. A cam plate (20) and a ribbed cam (21) are fixedly mounted to an end section of a drive shaft (13), the carriage (8) can be made to reciprocate vertically by the cam plate (20) and a balancing weight (32) is driven within the carriage (8) in a direction which is opposite to the direction of movement of the carriage (8) by means of the ribbed cam (21), the sliding blocks (26), arms (28) and the balancing weight (32) in such a way that an inertia force (F) which is generated during the reciprocating movement of the carriage (8) is eliminated by the inertia force (-F) of the balancing weight (32) in the opposite direction. <IMAGE>
