Laser machine for working (machining) a workpiece and method for controlling a laser machine

A laser machine 1 is provided for working a workpiece 15 with a laser beam 2, it being possible for a laser which emits the laser beam 2 and/or for an optical system 16 which focuses the laser beam 2 to be moved relative to the workpiece 15 in particular in the direction 4 of the major extent of the laser beam 2, and in a working position of the laser 3 and/or the optical system 16 the laser beam 2 being annularly surrounded, before it strikes the workpiece 15, perpendicularly to its direction 4 of the major extent by first shielding elements 10, and scattered light 12 of the laser beam 2 reflected from the workpiece 15 being caught above the workpiece 15 by second shielding elements 11 extending perpendicularly to the direction 4 of the major extent of the laser beam 2. A sensor 13 assigned to the movable laser 3 and/or the movable optical system 16 is provided for local temperature measurement in a locally defined region, the point of incidence of the laser beam 2 upon the workpiece 15 coming within the locally defined region only in the working position of the laser 3 and/or the optical system 16. A switching-off device 14 is provided for the laser 3, which switches off the laser 3 in dependence on the temperature measured by the sensor 13 when the temperature drops below a preset minimum value.
