Cylinder head with box tappets

The lifting valves of an internal combustion engine are actuated by so-called box tappets, which have a rectangular cross-section. A valve clearance adjusting platelet is situated essentially inside the box tappet between the free end of the valve stem and the inside of the tappet top surface. For fitting the adjusting platelet the tappet can be pushed towards the camshaft axis into a servicing position. For this purpose a separate guide element for the tappet, detachably fixed to the cylinder head, is removed or displaced. Various embodiments for guide elements of this type are indicated. An especially simple design results when two lifting valves are provided adjacent to one another between two camshaft bearings, to the tappets of which valves a common, centrally arranged guide element is assigned.
