In the method according to the invention, the signal transit time (sly) between a multipoint coupler (MPK) of a communications system (KS) and the connected communications terminals (KE) is in each case determined. In the communications terminals (KE), release information (fi) is in each case inserted, a pre-defined time span (tm) before a packet end signal (pe), into the information packets (P) which are to be transmitted. In one of the communications terminals (KE), in which despatch of an information packet (P') is provided, a transmission time (SZP) is calculated after the recognition of the release information (fi) with the aid of the pre-defined time span (tm) and the measured signal transit time (sly). With the aid of the method according to the invention, the intervals between the information packets (P, P') transmitted via a multipoint coupler (MPK) can be substantially reduced, thereby increasing the throughput rate and efficiency of the multipoint couplers (MPK).
