Process for preparing granular sodium silicate

To prepare a densified, granular sodium silicate having a molar ratio of SiO2 : Na2O of from 1.7 : 1 to 4.1 : 1, the sodium silicate having a mean particle diameter of < 500 mu m is first mixed with a material which increases its hardness, before it is converted into a granular material for pressing having particle sizes of from 0.1 to 5 mm by compaction, comminution and sieving (screening).
