A steering lock apparatus comprising : a base portion (1) fixed on a vehicle body ; a schaft member (6) held by the base portion (1) in a manner relatively movable in the axial direction thereof and in a manner relatively rotatable ; a first driving mechanism (7) disposed on the base portion (1) for carrying out the relative movement of the shaft member (6) ; a first tooth portion (15) formed on the base member and extending in the axial direction ; a second tooth portion (14) formed on the shaft member (6), engageable with the first tooth portion (15) and extending in the axial direction ; wherein the first tooth portion (14) and the second tooth portion (15) are put in mesh by the relative movement of the shaft member (6), thereby disabling the relative rotation of the shaft member (6) ; wherein further comprising : a shielding member (17, 18) positioned between the first tooth portion (15) and the second tooth portion for releasing or shielding between the first tooth portion (15) and the second tooth portion (14), thereby enabling to mesh the first tooth portion (15) and the second tooth portion (14) or disabling to mesh the first tooth portion (15) and the second tooth portion (14) ; an urging means (23) for urging the shielding member (17, 18), thereby positioning the shielding member (17, 18) so as to always shield between the first tooth portion (15) and the second tooth portion (14) ; and a second driving merchanism (22) disposed on the base portion (1) for operating the shielding member (17, 18), thereby releasing between the first tooth portion (15) and the second tooth portion (14). <IMAGE> |
