Prepn. of fluorochemical cpds. comprises: (a) forming a mixt. of at least one fluorinatable non-functional organic starting cpd. (I) and at least one other cpd. (II); then (b) subjecting to Simons electrochemical fluorination in anhydrous HF. (II) is selected from: (i) perfluorochemical cpds. which boil at higher temp. than (I) or resulting fluorochemical cpds.; and (ii) precursor cpds. which can be fluorinated in-situ. Also claimed is a process for forming perfluoropropane or perfluorobutane.
