A device and a method are described for regulating a generator, by means of which device or method an increased generator output power can be achieved either in that the excitation current may have a value which is above the rated excitation current, or in that the generator is dimensioned such that overheating could occur under unfavourable circumstances. In order that this does not occur, even under unfavourable circumstances, the temperature is measured, preferably in the regulator, and the temperature at critical points is calculated from this temperature, taking into account typical parameters. If an unacceptably high temperature is recognised, the excitation current is reduced by suitable measures to such an extent that the maximum permissible temperature is not exceeded. ……
